Henry Wellcome's collecting was indiscriminate — Napoleon's toothbrush, Darwin's walking stick, votive offerings, forceps — and the museum now sets that against contemporary art and a reckoning with how the collection was formed. Being Human is the free permanent gallery. The reading room upstairs is part library, part exhibition, and a good place to sit.
