Sixty-odd shops in a short street and nearly all of them are one trade. Jamb makes chimneypieces and lanterns from its own moulds; Howe deals in furniture from four centuries; Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler and Nicholas Haslam are decorating houses with shops at the front; Bennison sells the printed linens it is known for; Collier Webb casts lighting and metal furniture; Arthur Brett and Promemoria show cabinet work. Eleven galleries sit between them.
It is a trade street rather than a shopping street, which is the interest of it: the customers are largely people doing up somebody else's house. There is a farmers' market in Orange Square at the eastern end.
