Guided tours worth booking: walks led by people who know the streets, and the bus, river and cycling tours that earn their fare. Each is drawn on the map as the ground it covers, from where it meets.
Plague pits, the Fire, the Blitz and the executions, with pubs, in the square mile that had all of them.
Every Saturday, 14:30Walking
The City has burned down, been emptied by plague, been bombed flat and been the site of most of the executions in English history, all within the same square mile, and a good deal of the evidence is still legible if somebody points at it. The walk takes in churchyards heaped above street level by the bodies underneath, the line the Fire stopped at, and the gaps the Blitz left - with a couple of pubs on the way.
