Saturday is the day the antiques end of Portobello works, and the walk is timed for it: down through the Holland Park and Notting Hill streets, past the communal garden squares that are locked to everyone but their residents, and into the market while it is at full noise. The Carnival, the Rachman years and the film all get their place, in that order of importance.
