The Oratory does something almost nowhere else in Britain does: it performs the great orchestral Mass settings - Mozart, Haydn, Schubert - during the actual Mass they were written for, with choir and players in the gallery, on Sunday mornings through much of the year.
The building was finished in 1884 in a style deliberately imported wholesale from Rome, and the marble, the gilding and the very large scale are all part of why the music sounds the way it does in here. Attending is free; it is a service, not a concert, and behaves like one.
