Founded in 1980 as the Tricycle, in the old Foresters' Hall on Kilburn High Road, which had been a cinema and a dance hall before that. It made its name on tribunal plays: verbatim reconstructions of public inquiries, staged from the transcripts, on the Stephen Lawrence inquiry and on Bloody Sunday among others.
It was renamed Kiln in 2018, to tie it to Kilburn, and more than two thousand people signed a petition against losing the old name. 292 seats, and the programme is still new writing with an argument in it.
