Tracy Turnblad is large, can dance, and wants to be on the local television dance show. Once she is on it she notices that the black kids are only allowed on one day a month, and sets about that too. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the songs, including Good Morning Baltimore and You Can't Stop the Beat. Neil Hurst plays Edna, Tracy's mother, the part traditionally played by a man. It has an interval.
