Kenneth MacMillan's ballet, first staged in 1974, follows Manon as she is torn between her love for Des Grieux and the seductive promise of wealth, danced to music by Jules Massenet. The Royal Ballet alternates its casts across the run: Francesca Hayward, Yasmine Naghdi and Fumi Kaneko share the title role, with Marcelino Sambé, William Bracewell and Vadim Muntagirov as Des Grieux, so which pairing you see depends on the date.
