Ex Cathedra: Spem in Alium in forty parts

Forty separate voice parts at once, and new pieces written to match.

Classical

At St Martin-in-the-Fields.

Tallis wrote Spem in Alium around 1570 for eight choirs of five, probably to out-do a forty-part motet brought over from Italy. Ex Cathedra sing it with other forty-part works including a new one by Roderick Williams. 19:00.
