A 1700 pub with a small room upstairs that has launched an unreasonable number of bands.

A last is the wooden form a shoemaker builds a shoe on, which is where the name comes from; Truman's rebuilt the pub in 1876. It stands within thirty metres of the site of James Burbage's Theatre of 1576, the first purpose-built playhouse in England, whose timbers were carried across the river and became the Globe - so live performance has been happening on this corner, on and off, for four and a half centuries.
The room upstairs is tiny and free more often than not. Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, the Horrors, Klaxons and IDLES have all played it.
