Up to eighteen productions a year from an amateur company of 1932, in a chapel that has also been a synagogue and a swimming pool.

The company started in 1932 as the Tavistock Repertory Company at the Mary Ward settlement in Bloomsbury, moved to Canonbury Tower in 1952 and took its name from it, was put out in 2003 after fifty years there, and spent the next fifteen borrowing other people's stages. A bequest from a member, Barbara Waddell, bought it this building in 2018. The Primitive Methodists put it up in 1875 as a chapel and school; it was bombed in the war, bought and restored by the congregation Beth Hamedrash Ohel Yisroel and consecrated as the Northwold Road Synagogue in 1955, closed in 1989, and was a women-only gym from 1992 to 2014 - the pool the gym dug in the basement is now the second rehearsal room. The main house seats 120 and can be rearranged, the studio takes fifty, and the company is strictly non-professional with eight hundred members and friends behind it. Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Siân Phillips and Alfred Molina all acted with it early on.
