Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, who wrote the book for Hairspray, did this one from the same Waters source material, with songs by Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and David Javerbaum from The Daily Show. It is 1954, Wade Walker is the coolest boy in Baltimore, and the girl is on the wrong side of the tracks in the other direction.
It was nominated for four Tonys. Performed in the Laban Theatre.
