Mary Rodgers wrote the music - Richard Rodgers's daughter, working in her own idiom rather than his - with lyrics by Marshall Barer, and it made Carol Burnett's name on Broadway in 1959. Queen Aggravain will not let her son marry until a princess passes her tests, all of which are rigged, until a swamp princess called Winnifred turns up and refuses to behave.
