Severndroog is a triangular brick tower of 1784 standing at 132 metres above sea level among the oaks of Shooters Hill, with a spiral stair to a roof platform. From up there south-east London runs away below the treetops and, on a clear day, seven counties are in sight. It opens on Sundays, which is the thing to check before making the journey.
