The top of 20 Fenchurch Street - the building everyone calls the Walkie-Talkie - was given over to a public garden as a condition of the planning permission, which is why it costs nothing: book a slot and take the lift. Ferns and palms climb two banked terraces to a glass wall facing south, with the Shard straight ahead, Tower Bridge and the Tower to the left and the estuary beyond them. There is an open-air terrace on the east side for anyone who would rather not be behind glass.
