Wren and Hooke's column is sixty-one metres tall and the platform is near the top, behind a cage added in 1842. It was the tallest thing in London when it went up and is now among the shortest things worth climbing, which is the point of it: you look up at the towers rather than down from them, and London Bridge, the river and the Shard are close enough to show you the scale of what has been added since 1677.
