The Corinthia occupies a building of 1885 put up as the Metropole, one of the grand railway hotels, and taken over during both wars by the government - it was the Ministry of Defence's until 2007, and the room this lounge sits in was offices for longer than it has been a hotel.
The lounge is named for the Baccarat chandelier over it, made of about a thousand crystals, and the tea underneath it is the traditional form done carefully rather than reinvented. The price splits on the day of the week, which is worth knowing before booking a Saturday.
