John Soane's own country house in Ealing, restored, with a gallery beside it showing contemporary art.
Artist's house
Also in Museums.
Soane bought Pitzhanger in 1800 and rebuilt it as a showcase for his ideas - the shallow domes, the coloured light, the mirrors and the collection of antiquities that later went to Lincoln's Inn Fields - and it reopened in 2019 after a restoration that stripped away a century of council alterations. The gallery in the former library wing shows contemporary artists in response to the house: Anish Kapoor, Rana Begum, Es Devlin, and the annual Ealing exhibitions.
