The bronze of 1961-62 is the smaller version of the sculpture Hepworth made for the United Nations in New York in memory of its Secretary-General, who died in a plane crash in 1961 and had been a friend; a pierced upright form three metres tall, weathered green, on the lake's edge. Battersea Park has Moore's Three Standing Figures a few hundred yards away, so the two great British sculptors of the century face each other across the water.
