The sweet course as a destination: gelato and ice cream, cakes and patisserie, chocolate, and the dessert bars where pudding is the whole point. Bread and the morning are next door, in Bakeries.
Florentine gelato on Notting Hill Gate, and the Buontalenti is the one to get.
Gelato & ice cream
Idilio Badiani opened his gelateria on viale dei Mille in Florence in the summer of 1932, and this is the same firm rather than a licence. Buontalenti is the flavour to order and the reason the name matters: milk, cream, sugar and eggs and nothing else, named for Bernardo Buontalenti, the Medici court's architect and engineer, who is credited with putting something like gelato in front of the Grand Duke in the sixteenth century.
