Desserts & Gelato

The sweet course as a destination: gelato and ice cream, cakes and patisserie, chocolate, and the dessert bars where pudding is the whole point. Bread and the morning are next door, in Bakeries.

Dark Sugars Chocolates

Ghanaian cocoa, and a hot chocolate with a hedge of chocolate shavings on top.

Chocolate

Nyanga spent three years on her family's cocoa farm in Ghana before opening this, and the shop smells of roasting beans from the door. The counter runs from little coloured pearls to slabs, by way of pistachio, vodka and orange, and there is usually a tray of mango turning in dark chocolate.

The hot chocolate is what the queue is for. It is built as a swirl of milk and chocolate, then buried under a heap of shavings that stand up out of the cup and melt into it as you go: Pitch Black is the thick one, and there are hazelnut praline, white saffron and pink champagne beside it. African and Latin American music, and staff who make a performance of pouring it.
