Where the person behind the stall grew it. London's farmers' markets, most of them one morning a week: raw milk and day-boat fish, biodynamic vegetables and rare-breed meat, and two midweek markets that are really about lunch.

Twenty-five years in, this is a market where the shoppers know the stallholders by name. Raw milk, fish landed on the Dorset coast, heritage apple varieties from Essex, tomatoes from the Isle of Wight and game in season. Not every stall comes every week.
It sits next to Deans Gardens, so there is a park for children, and there are good food shops on the same stretch. Most stallholders take cards, parking on the surrounding streets is free, and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
