The film begins with Harry alone in a station café reading the Prophet's 'Chosen One' headline and chatting up the waitress, and then Dumbledore is on the platform outside, standing among the commuters with his hat and his beard, and the two of them apparate away from a suburban railway station. It is Surbiton, whose Southern Railway building of 1937 with its clock tower and curved concrete is the finest moderne station in London and looks exactly as it does on screen, café included. A modest stop, but a real one.
