The Forum is the cultural section of the Austrian embassy and has been running since 1956, when cultural diplomacy was a new idea and a country rebuilding its identity had good reason to try it. It puts on around a hundred and fifty events a year, half of them at Rutland Gate and half elsewhere in Britain, across music, visual art, film, literature, theatre, dance and science.
Admission to all of them is free, which for a recital in a Knightsbridge townhouse is a remarkable thing. There is a library upstairs.
