Nash's park, and the most formal of the big ones: the Broad Walk, the boating lake with its herons, and Queen Mary's Gardens at the centre holding around twelve thousand roses of some four hundred varieties, at their peak in early June. The Open Air Theatre plays in the trees through the summer, and the north side runs up against the canal and the zoo.
