In Woolf's novel the June day that Clarissa spends preparing her party is also the day the shell-shocked Septimus Warren Smith spends in Regent's Park with his wife, watching the skywriting aeroplane and hearing the dead speak, before the walk to Harley Street and the end; Peter Walsh crosses the park between them, and the whole of London's middle is stitched together through it. The benches by the Broad Walk are the ones to read it on.
