Historic interior
Rebuilt in 1844-5 in gault brick and stucco, with a cast-iron balcony running the whole width of the first floor. It is small and its neighbours are not, which is most of the first impression of it.
Most of the fittings are still here: carved woodwork, decorative glass divisions, painted mirrors, and the rare one - wooden snob screens, the little pivoting panels set into the bar that let a customer order a drink without being looked at by the staff or by anybody in the next compartment.
Three banks of four handpumps, a full menu with a children's menu, and Sunday roasts.
