Adejoke Bakare entered a competition in 2019 for a three-month residency in Brixton Village, having never worked in a professional kitchen. The residency began in September 2020, the Observer's critic gave it a rave, and it stayed. Time Out made it the best restaurant in London in 2022, when it had eighteen seats. The cooking is West African and now has a Michelin star, the first held by a Black woman in Britain.
