The Duke and Duchess of York were living with her parents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, when their first daughter was born here by caesarean in the early hours; the Home Secretary waited in the house, as custom then required. The Strathmores' house went in 1937 and the corner is Berkeley Square House, so the plaque on Bruton Street is all there is - but for a century of royal history it is the first address, and the restaurant on the ground floor does not mind you looking.
