The palaces and the parades, and the places where the last hundred years of the story happened: where Elizabeth II was born, where Diana lived, where the balcony is. Filter by monarch or by kind.
The steps where Diana showed the world William and Harry, and where Catherine appeared with George, Charlotte and Louis.
Where it happenedFree
Diana broke with royal custom by giving birth in a hospital rather than a palace, and the Lindo Wing's plain doorway on South Wharf Road became the stage: William in June 1982, Harry in 1984, then a generation later George in 2013, Charlotte in 2015 and Louis in 2018, each carried out to the cameras within a day. It is a private maternity wing of a working NHS hospital, so there is nothing to visit but the doorstep - which is exactly what the photographers came for.
A working hospital wing; the steps are on South Wharf Road
