The Queen laid the first wreath at the Cenotaph every November for sixty-five years, then watched from the Foreign Office balcony, and the ceremony was hers as much as any: the maroons, the silence, the Last Post, the royal wreaths and then the Royal British Legion's march of veterans down Whitehall that takes an hour to pass. Charles has laid the wreath since 2017. The crowd stands behind barriers from Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square, and the earlier you come the closer you are.
