British Statecraft and the Baltic Sea Region

Two historians on four centuries of Britain in the Baltic, from the archives up.

Lecture / talk

At King's College London.

Hugo Bromley and Brendan Simms on their documentary history of how the British state has read and acted in the Baltic since 1600 - a region they argue is defined by its closeness to Germany on one side and a Russian-dominated hinterland on the other, and one Britain has repeatedly found itself drawn into over the balance of power. Built from archival material rather than secondary accounts. Hosted by the Centre for Statecraft and National Security.
