Peace Makers: the Foreign Office in the Second World War

A former head of the Foreign Office on the diplomats who built the post-war order while nobody was looking.

Lecture / talk

At King's College London.

Peter Ricketts, who ran the Foreign Office himself and was Britain's first National Security Adviser, on the diplomats who spent the war doing everything except fighting it: building alliances, backing resistance networks, evacuating civilians, and being interned in Tokyo. His argument is that the post-war order was drafted by these people while the histories were being written about somebody else. Hosted by the Centre for Statecraft and National Security.
