Marks of a Maker: the stories coffins tell us

Pigment analysis, wood technology and experimental archaeology, on ancient Egyptian coffins.

TalkHistoryScience & nature

At University College London.

The Petrie Museum has spent a year on the makers of its coffins rather than their occupants - how the wood was worked, what the pigments were and where they came from, what the decoration meant. The researchers bring the methods along: imaging, analysis and some of it hands on. In the Object Based Learning Laboratory in the Wilkins Building.
