In 2020 Philippe Sands was asked to co-chair the panel that drafted a legal definition of ecocide, with a view to adding it to the crimes the International Criminal Court can try. He is a practising barrister who has argued environmental cases before international tribunals and also writes the books about Nuremberg and its afterlife.
