At Blackheath Halls.
Brookner was born in south London in 1928 to Polish-Jewish parents, spent years looking after her mother, made a career as an art historian at the Courtauld, and did not start writing fiction until she was in her fifties - then won the Booker in 1984 for Hotel du Lac and produced almost a novel a year into her eighties. Hermione Lee has written her life, and talks about it here with Suzi Feay. An hour in the Hearn Recital Room; £10.
