A saloon-style music hall of 1863 with its iron galleries intact, which almost none of them are.

It opened as MacDonald's Music Hall and has a two-tier gallery running round three sides on cast iron columns, with the iron railings still there. Almost every hall of this kind was rebuilt, burned or pulled down; this one survived because the Quakers took it over and used it as a meeting house, and a meeting house needs a room left alone rather than modernised. It is protected at grade II*.
It is run as a charity now, part performance space and part community centre, seating two hundred and ninety - which is roughly what it held when the audience was drinking at tables.
