Twenty thousand people under the Millennium Dome, and for years the busiest music arena in the world.
Gigs
Richard Rogers's dome was finished in 1999 for a millennium exhibition that lasted a year and was widely judged a failure; the tent stayed up and empty for six years while everyone argued about what to do with it. The answer, in 2007, was to build an arena inside it and leave the rest as a covered street of bars and cinemas, which is why you walk through a shopping mall to reach a twenty-thousand-seat room.
It has topped the world ticket-sales rankings repeatedly since. The smaller hall next door, Indigo, takes about two and a half thousand, and the roof can be climbed on a walkway over the top of the tent.
