The choral foundation goes back to the fourteenth century and the choir sings services through the week. Evensong is free to attend and unticketed, and takes you into the quire without the visitor route or its charge.
A great deal of the music was composed here or for occasions held here - Purcell was organist and is buried by the organ screen, Handel's coronation anthems were written for a service in this building, and the Abbey has sung at every coronation since 1066. Concerts and organ recitals are programmed alongside the services.
