From the Terrace at the top of the hill the Thames bends away south-west through meadows towards Petersham and Ham with nothing in the frame that was not there two centuries ago, because the Richmond, Ham and Petersham Open Spaces Act of 1902 makes it illegal to put anything there. Reynolds painted it from a house on the hill and Turner painted it too. A public walk with benches runs the length of it.
