The two walkways are forty-two metres above the river and were built so that people could still cross while the bascules were raised; they were shut for most of the twentieth century and reopened with the exhibition. Part of the floor is glass, so the traffic and the bascules are directly under your feet. The view runs straight up and down the river - the Tower and the City one way, the Pool and Canary Wharf the other.
