Lower Marsh

Waterloo's own street, with a weekday market and not a chain in sight.

Market streets

Lower Marsh market on a weekday, the City in the distance.

One of the oldest market streets in south London, running behind Waterloo station and trading since the early nineteenth century, when it was a causeway across marshland. Stalls set up on weekdays down the middle; either side are cafés, record and vintage shops, a good bookshop and pubs. It is where people who work around Waterloo actually eat, rather than the station concourse.
