Sound Gallery

Seven million recordings in the archive, and a curated handful you can stand and listen to.

In British Library.

The Library's sound archive runs to more than seven million recordings - music, oral history, accents and dialects, birdsong, radio - and almost none of it is on display anywhere. This small room on the lower ground floor is where staff and guest curators put up a changing selection to listen to, which for most of the collection is the only way it is ever heard outside a reading room.
