Kensington Gardens

Hyde Park's formal other half: the Italian Gardens, the Albert Memorial and a palace.

Also in Royal London.

The two run together as one green expanse and are two parks: the boundary is West Carriage Drive and the bridge over the Serpentine, with Hyde Park to the east and these two hundred and seventy acres to the west. Kensington Gardens is the quieter and the more formal of the pair — it was the private garden of Kensington Palace until George II's death — and it keeps the avenues, the Round Pond and the Italian Gardens, a Victorian ornamental water garden built as a gift from Albert to Victoria. The Albert Memorial faces the Royal Albert Hall across the road, the Serpentine Galleries put on free contemporary art in two pavilions, and the Peter Pan statue stands where Barrie set the story.
