Ideal for a sunny day. And for a cold rainy day: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
A working nature reserve that happens to hold a quarter of a million burials.
CemeteriesWildlifeFree
Closed for burials in 1966 and left alone, which turned thirty-one acres of East End cemetery into one of the better woodlands in inner London: sycamore and ash closed over the graves, bluebells and wood anemone in spring, sparrowhawks and seven species of bat. The Friends manage it as a reserve and run walks and a monthly work day. Nothing here is tidied: fallen headstones are left where they lie and dead wood is left standing, because that is the habitat.
