A ninety-minute tour of the Society's own building, taken by its staff, and the part worth coming for is underground: a bombproof strongroom holding the library, archive and biological specimens that Carl Linnaeus assembled - the collection the whole system of naming species was worked out from, bought for the nation by a twenty-four-year-old in 1784. The tour ends up the grand staircase in the library, with a display of items brought out of the collections. This is also the room where the papers of Darwin and Wallace were read out together in 1858.
