The records run back to 1497 and include the Bill of Rights, the Great Reform Act and the warrant for the king's execution, kept for centuries by the Lords in the Jewel Tower and then moved up the Victoria Tower in the 1960s - a move the then Clerk of the Records defended on the grounds that a tower beat an archivist's usual fate of a basement.
