A Pleasing Terror: two ghost stories by M R James

Robert Lloyd Parry performs two of the earliest James stories, in the society James himself belonged to.

Books & writers

At Society of Antiquaries of London.

M R James was a medievalist who wrote ghost stories to read aloud to friends at Christmas, and a Fellow of this Society, which makes the room the right one. Lloyd Parry performs two of the earliest: Canon Alberic's Scrap-book, in which a young antiquary buys the wrong manuscript in a Pyrenean town, and The Mezzotint, in which a museum curator watches something happen inside a picture and can do nothing about it. A ticket includes a drink.
