Barts has treated the sick on this spot since 1123, which makes it the oldest hospital in Britain still standing where it was founded, and the museum is the hospital telling its own story out of its own archive. Allow time for the building: William Hogarth painted the two enormous canvases on the Great Hall stair in the 1730s and took no fee for them, to keep the commission from going to a Venetian. Both came back in 2025 when the North Wing's restoration finished.
