Guided tours worth booking: walks led by people who know the streets, and the bus, river and cycling tours that earn their fare. Each is drawn on the map as the ground it covers, from where it meets.
The night the City burned, told where it happened.
Every Thursday, 14:15Walking
On 29 December 1940 the City was hit with incendiaries and burned; sixty-three acres north of St Paul's were reduced to ash, a hundred more beyond that, and two hundred people died. The cathedral survived and the photograph of its dome above the smoke became the image of the war. The walk goes through the ground that burned, which is legible still if you know what to look for.
